What a day -- it was a lot of fun. Weather was perfect and the sunflower fields were beautiful. Lots of picture taking, but nothing much more to do there. We tried to head for pumpkin picking, but NO WAY! So many people we drove in and drove out. I was pleasantly surprised to see about half the people at the sunflower fields in masks. We wore them when we were near people.
I thought the one with me and my DIL was funny -- it was a live photo and it looked like she was dancing but she stayed looking at the camera the entire time (actually stepping over the leash).
The entire day was so nice. The charcuterie board was good -- I made a savory one and a snack one (fun chocolates and potato sticks ... remember those?). I used the baking cups as individual serving cups for the snack board (they have that duel purpose). Mint patties, marshmallows, peanut butter pretzels too.
The grapes on the board are called Moon Beams. They are ugly (thought of Halloween), but taste amazing. Crisp and sweet -- like an extra special red grape.
And the cake .... it was DRY! UGH. I thought it was dry. The kids didn't. The vanilla buttercream was spectacular, the cake looked perfectly baked, but I expected moist. It wasn't horribly dry -- just not moist. (Sorry if you hate that word LOL.) Her apple cider cake was perfection and I had hopes for this one too. She has suggestions if you want a moister cake, but I don't know if I want to go to all that trouble to experiment. I will try more of her seasonal cakes -- pumpkin was up on the site. Guess my new found hobby has already run its course hah! Probably for the best anyway.
My youngest thought the cake was from a bakery. He didn't realize until after he started eating it -- said it was so perfect he was shocked. That was a nice compliment. He kept saying it was so pretty and tasted incredible. Maybe my cake standards are too high ...
I was pooped like crazy after it all -- I almost fell asleep on the sofa. I slept for over 10 hours last night. Perry does that to me. Today is going to be a chill day. Sunday ME day. Lots of easy stuff -- rest workout day, rest mind day, etc.
Being out in the sunflower fields kicked up my allergies. Eating lots of cheese gave me cheese face this morning (swollen eyes from dairy and salt). Good day to chill. I have another full week -- yea, so a rest day is nice.
A different kind of happy today. Stay well. Later gators.
