A Walk in the Wildflowers

Another 24 for 2024 item checked.

This was a good one. Well worth the 4 hour roundtrip -- but probably not something I'd return to because the drive was long. All country roads through some deliverance kind of areas before we got to the National Forrest.

Pocket at Pigeon Mountain for the "best" wildflower walk in GA. The mountain flanks the gorge on 3 sides and with usual rock that leeches calcium. It's protected from weather and has a unique composition so it grows fantastic wildflowers (spring ephemerals) for 4 weeks in mid-March through mid-April.

You walk a protective boardwalk and then a technical trail to a waterfall. I forgot pictures of the waterfall, but we walked the base of it. After the 2 miles of walking, we ate a picnic lunch on some rocks.

There are 9 miles of trails, but we didn't stay to hike anymore than the waterfall trail. I would've liked to hike, but I won't do it by myself. Hubby didn't want to hike and I couldn't find anyone interested in that long of a trip for wildflowers -- oh well.

It's really beautiful in-person. These are very small flowers so you don't notice them in the pictures (except close ups) -- they are everywhere and amazing.

My favorite

My 8 mile hike (with technical parts) got canceled today because the hike leader is sick. Bummer. I'm signed up for this hike again next Monday -- hopefully the weather will be okay.

Today is the eclipse. We'll get it at 85% but it's partially cloudy today. I still have the glasses from the last one.

I plan to run at the park with Duke, plant the next stage of the garden, begin to harden my little grow-room plants and a few little prickly house chores. Not a bad Monday.

Hope you enjoy this eclipse day. Later gators.
