It's a good day to talk about books.
I read this from the library. Jen Hatmaker's April pick. Historical fiction about a real-life bookstore owner who published Ulysses (Joyce) when no one else would. She's a gay American living in Paris. It was interesting to learn about this place in history, but I never felt drawn to the writing. I thought the best part was the author's note at the end -- very interesting.
Up next in fiction ... recommended on IG as a favorite book that revolves around a house.
I'm reading this memoir (self-help) book too. Gretchen Rubin mentioned it. Good advice so far, but nothing new. She explains her chaotic life and then explains how she adjusted and changed. I think this is an interesting read for someone new to these ideas. Good library option. I'm enjoying trying these kind of books with no cost to me.
I bought the sequel to a fun suspense book. It's holding in the top spot of my cue unless a library hold sneaks in.
I got an unexpected gift in the mail -- came with a note that said, "Happy Early Birthday." No name. I think it's from my gf who does a birthday box exchange with me. She's out of town so I'll check when she gets back. It's a book journal.
Here's where I'm being snotty. It looks like a lot of work to log 30 books. Why do I want to put down so much information on any given book? She put my name on the cover so I can't donate it. I don't see the value. FOUR pages of notes for each book. I guess I don't read that intellectual of books to want to record so much. I'm trying to see if I want to keep an abbreviated log of some of my favorites.
Cute cover. |
There are two more pages for each entry. This is a lot of note keeping for books I'll never read again. |
Hope you're having a good weekend. Reading and You (Netflix) are on the agenda for today. Or possibly Everything Everywhere All at Once in honor of the Oscars tonight. Later gators.
