I had a good day yesterday. I ended up doing a short Peloton ride to calm the hormones again -- maybe too much for my back though with a 2 1/2 hour walking tour. It did "cure" my temperature regulation problems. Worst of monthly is over, thank goodness. I had to add a meloxicam to my medication cocktail yesterday -- bummer. Hang in there, liver. I'm trying to give you a break.
The history tour was very good. So many interesting tidbits. Probably not interesting if you aren't in Asheville, but here are some pictures.
Building on left is called The Cake Box. Building on right is The Pink Birthday Cake. |
The first car garage for the wealthy who summered in Asheville. |
Famous Asheville author. "Look Homeward, Angel" is his novel based on his childhood in his mother's boarding house. Tours of the boarding house daily. Guess what I'm doing next visit? |
Turns out I already own the book. Guess I need to add this to the TBR pile. |
Grove family of Asheville. This was Grove's famous tonic ad. Thin was reserved for the poor -- you wanted some girth back in the day. |
Grove Park Arcade. Converted to a federal war building in WW2 because Asheville was considered a safe city from a war threat. City got it back and renovated back to shopping and apartments. |
Woolworth lunch counter reinterpretation in the old Woolworth building. |
After the tour, I took my chances on getting a seat at the Michelin star restaurant in Asheville (always packed, no reservations). Last seat at the counter -- woo hoo. Chai Pani -- Indian street food. I asked the server for something traditional, GF and plant forward. It was delicious. As a side note, I love dining by myself. I get to experience the restaurant itself without the distraction of conversation that takes my full attention. Servers will talk more, recommend more, share more. Of course, I enjoy going out to eat with people too, but solo dining is a totally different experience.
Nimbu Pani Lime drink with water, salt, lime and sugar |
Vegetable Uttapam -- lentil and rice flour pancake with coconut dip. Spicy veggie soup side. |
Finished the afternoon at the teahouse for my usual Chai and a book.
This morning I'm walking the neighborhood and checking out a tailgate farmer's market downtown. Quick clean up of me and the house and I'll hit the road back home. And, as I type this, I wonder if I should have one more teahouse stop after the market?!?!?
Climbing up a little. I'm glad I came and glad I pushed to do some things. My recovery stats rebounded last night. My body is definitely moving in the right direction.
Asheville seems to center me. I know it's me who's centering me when I'm here, but I wish I could find that feeling in GA too. Or at least some other nice feeling. GA days feel long and tense in some ways. Maybe it's the juxtaposition and that's where and why the magic feeling. Might be worth exploring with coaching.
Happy Saturday. Hope your weekend is set for some fun. Later gators.
