Here's a little scoop about home. I was picking greens and peppers from the garden before we left for Asheville, when a group of people from a gym up the street walked by. We get tons of gym folks running the street or walking to the trails.
They complimented my garden and complimented a little sign I painted. Rainbow heart with "BE YOU" message. I've ordered more signs for the yard and fence on the side where people walk up the trail. Stay tuned -- all coming from Etsy. Putting out inclusion messages and kindness messages.
We got talking (side note: they encouraged me to check out the gym because so many nice people -- like a family they said). I exchanged numbers with one woman who invited me to a local group that advocates for local politics, local change, etc. I joined up and it seems like an interesting group. We have a lot of local seats up for grabs in our town.
Our country is a shit show and I'm so upset about it, but stepping up (even a little) makes a difference in how I feel. If enough of us step up a little, it'll make a difference in our country. It starts local. I never gave enough credence to how important local politics are because our democracy was never challenged like this in my lifetime. I first saw it during the pandemic. I won't make that mistake again.
Anyway -- when I look regularly enough, pay attention, I find my path and people to walk it with. Sometimes it's a miss, but the point is to keep going. We don't have to walk this shit show alone.
P.S. I'm not interested in the gym right now, but the runners coming down the street always yell for me to join. It's a solid "maybe" now. I might be convinced at some point. They are slowly wearing me down.
